After defeating various calls by Boris Johnson for a General Election (GE) and attempting to slip the UK into a no-deal nightmare, Labour finally agreed to a GE to be held on the 12th December 2019 after the specter of no-deal has been banished and EU has granted an extension till the end of January 2020.
Marsha de Cordova whose constituency of Battersea hosted the event in the beautiful Battersea Arts Centre welcomed the Labour family including a mass of Labour members and supporters, a large section of the shadow cabinet, Deputy Leader Tom Watson, the Leader Jeremy Corbyn and a big press contingent. Marsha gave an inspiring speech about the importance of the building we are in and how the past is still so entwined to the struggles and victories of the present.
Marsha then gave way to the next Prime Minister of the UK, the leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn. Jeremy used the occasion to set out an inspiring message of hope that a Labour government represents. The hope to the young of a plan to tackle UK’s emissions and lead the world in Green technology and economy. The hope to the working population of investment that would reskill them where necessary to ensure they are the driving force of the new Green Industrial Revolution. The hope that our healthcare services will not be sold off to corporations in a sweetheart deal, but will be with us from cradle to grave.
Then there was a brief Q&A session with the press and some Labour members.
A few of our CLP members who were present at the meeting returned completely inspired and raring to go.
General Election 2019, BRING IT ON!!!
